Have you checked out Ellie Lash's gorgeous new kit Amused yet? Well, after you read about my awesome Semi-homemade Hybrid project using her kit, you're going to run right to GingerScraps to pick it up. :)
Look what I made! Look what I made!!! (Oh, sorry; I've been hanging out with my excitable 3-year-old too much I guess. *takes breath to settle down*)
Here are the steps. They're pretty easy. :)
Supplies:
Amused kit by Ellie Lash
Toothpicks
Scissors
Glue stick
1. First, open up the Smile WA (elash_amused_words2)and circle 1 (elash_amused_circle1).
2. Open a new canvas, 8x10 inches, 300dpi. Place the circle on a new canvas; place the Smile WA on top of the circle.
3. Decrease the size of the circle to about 40%. Shrink the Smile WA to fit as you wish. (I shrunk it to 40%, just like the WA.)
4. Add a drop shadow to the Smile WA.
5. Here's a photo to show the next few steps (I'll have a text explanation after the pic):
Once you've arranged the two layers how you'd like, select them both in the layers palette;
right-click and select Merge Layers. Now, each cupcake needs TWO discs (front and back around
the toothpick), so now you need to duplicate your disc. Then move the duplicate so there's enough
room to cut around them. You need to duplicate BOTH discs for as many cupcakes as you wish to
make.
6. Here's a screen shot of what my 8x10 canvas looks like:
7. Here's my printed page:
8. Cut out the discs.
Here are your supplies for one topper:
9. Place a thin layer of glue on the back side of each disc. Place the toothpick on one disc, lining it up so the "Smile" WA reads upright. :) Place the other disc on top of the first disc and toothpick. Smooth the edges and hold in place to help dry.
10. Once dry, pop on your cupcake and enjoy! Just don't eat the toothpick. :)
By the way, the cupcakes in my photos aren't homemade. (Hence the "semi-homemade hybrid" comment lol!) They from an awesome place, 3 Brothers Bakery.
So go check out the kit and make yourself some fun cupcake toppers!
Cheers,
Sara

Cute idea! One of my boys' birthdays is tomorrow. Maybe I'll do something like that. I've been wracking my brain to figure out something cute for cake/cupcakes.
Thanks for the idea! I'm going to do this for my DD's birthday next month!
